POPE FRANCIS SHOWS RESILIENT SPIRIT DURING CRITICAL HOSPITALIZATION

The Catholic Church leader, while battling a serious lung infection, touched hearts by expressing gratitude for the kindness received, particularly highlighting drawings and letters sent by children. "The closeness and comforting prayers I have received from around the world have deeply moved me," shared the Pontiff on his social media. At 88, the Holy Father is in critical condition at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he was admitted on February 14th. His current condition requires intensive care, including high flows of supplemental oxygen and blood transfusions, due to a complex respiratory crisis and pneumonia. Despite these challenges, doctors report that the Pope had a peaceful night's rest, though his prognosis remains reserved.

Even while hospitalized, Francis hasn't ceased his spiritual role. Through a prepared homily read by Archbishop Rino Fisichella during the Jubilee Mass for Deacons, the Pope shared words of wisdom: "Rest is also part of the therapy." He also took the opportunity to thank the medical team for their dedicated care.

In a particularly moving part of his message, Pope Francis turned his attention to global issues, remembering the third anniversary of the Ukraine conflict and calling for prayers for peace in Palestine, Israel, Myanmar, and other conflict regions.

The Pope's current situation has reignited discussions about Church protocols in case of Pontifical incapacitation, especially considering his advanced age and history of lung problems - notably, Francis had part of a lung removed in his youth.
