New Hosts, New Shows
Reid’s 7 p.m. ET slot will be taken over by a new program featuring Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and former RNC Chair Michael Steele. Meanwhile, Jen Psaki—host of Inside with Jen Psaki—is set to receive more airtime as the network bets on its most-watched weekend show. Alex Wagner, who had been filling in for Rachel Maddow in primetime, will no longer host the 9 p.m. ET show but will stay on as a correspondent.
Bigger Changes Coming
The shift comes as MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, plans to revamp programming across weekdays, weekends, and primetime. The network is also looking to expand its Washington bureau and strengthen its domestic and international reporting as part of a larger strategy ahead of parent company Comcast’s plans to separate MSNBC from NBCUniversal.Meanwhile, MSNBC is in discussions to bring in Politico’s Eugene Daniels and NYU law professor Melissa Murray, hinting at further changes in its lineup.
Joy Reid’s Declining Ratings
Reid’s viewership has plummeted, averaging 973,000 viewers in February 2025—a 28% drop compared to the same time last year. Her show’s cancellation marks the end of a controversial yet high-profile run, during which she became known for her anti-Trump rhetoric and polarizing statements. As MSNBC reshapes its future, the network is still on the lookout for key leadership roles, including head of talent, Washington bureau chief, and a new content strategy head.
One thing is clear—big changes are coming to MSNBC.
