The award for Best Original Song was ultimately presented by Mick Jagger, who jokingly referenced Dylan’s absence:
“The producers wanted Bob Dylan to do it, but Bob didn’t want to.”
Jagger added that Dylan suggested someone “younger” should take on the role—leading Jagger to quip: “Well, I’m younger than Bob! So here I am.”
Earlier in the night, Oscars host Conan O’Brien also made light of Dylan’s decision, saying:
“Dylan wanted to be here tonight, but not that badly.”
Best Original Song Winner & Nominees
Jagger announced the winning song, "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez, which triumphed over a diverse lineup of nominees:
“Mi Camino” (Emilia Pérez) – Performed by Zoe Saldaña & Selena Gomez
“Never Too Late” (Elton John: Never Too Late)
“The Journey” (The Six Triple Eight) – Performed by H.E.R.
“Like a Bird” (Sing Sing)
Longtime nominee Diane Warren, up for The Journey, was seeking her first competitive Oscar after 16 nominations, though she previously received an honorary Oscar in 2022. Warren also expressed disappointment that nominees in this category were not invited to perform at the ceremony. While Dylan’s absence left some wondering what might have been, the Oscars still delivered a night full of surprises and musical moments—even without the legendary singer-songwriter.
